Director's Letter

Welcome to the Summer Edition of the Ski Meister! We are anxious to showcase our museum this summer by highlighting our new and existing exhibits as well as activities at Utah Olympic Park.

The Alf Engen Ski Museum continues to excel in hosting visitors from throughout the world and educating and entertaining them about the history of skiing in the Intermountain West. Since opening in May 2002, we have hosted over 1.2 million visitors.

Throughout the difficult economic times, we have been very fortunate to have the continued support of our dedicated members, volunteers, Board of Trustees, contributors and grantors. We have been able to keep our museum current by expanding our exhibits into the foyer with the Video Wall being installed last year and onto the second floor where our new mobile exhibit currently features unique ski figurines. We've also put a high priority on maintaining and replacing our very popular interactive exhibits. The 2010 Hometown Heroes Display is scheduled to be completed this summer thanks to grant funds from the Office of Museum Services and the Rotary Club of Park City.

Our Educational Field Trip Program excels in engaging students in directed learning that supports the Utah State Education Core Curriculum. Since its inception in 2002, this program has enlightened and educated over 15,000 Utah students, parents and teachers. Grant monies from the Summit County RAP Tax, Marriner S. Eccles Foundation and Wells Fargo Bank have enabled the museum to provide Utah students with quality, cost-free field trips. Field trip feedback surveys are administered to each school on completion of the trip. Results have consistently rated the program as "excellent" in all areas -curriculum materials, educational stations, cart content, interactive exhibits and Utah Olympic Park Tour.

The Alf Engen Ski Museum would not be able to administer the Educational Field Trip Program without its 20 dedicated docents. A big "Thank You" to the docents for helping to make the 2010- 2011 school year another success.

The Alf Engen Ski Museum Foundation is a strong presence in the community thanks, in part, to the collaborative efforts of various institutions including the University of Utah J. Willard Marriott Library Ski Archives; Utah Athletic Foundation; Utah Museum Association; Park City Summit County Arts Council; Park City Rotary Clubs; Ski Utah; Utah Travel Council; Park City and Salt Lake City Chamber Bureaus; the International Ski History Association; the Alta Historical Society and the Summit County and Park City Historical Societies.
We rely heavily on our Donor Membership Program and truly appreciate our dedicated members' continued support.

Hope to see you at the museum this summer!
