School Field Trips

A unique educational experience awaits school groups visiting the Alf Engen Ski Museum at Utah Olympic Park.

This excursion explores the wonders of skiing and science, the relationship between skiing, and history and the importance of skiing to the region's economic well being.

Developed by educators, the dynamic, interactive program is founded in substantive learning activities that are aligned with the Fourth Grade Utah Core Curriculum. Well-versed museum docents convey the compelling messages via interactive computer programs and hands-on activities. Teacher-developed lesson plans and activities are designed to prepare your students for the field trip and provide a follow-up once they return to the classroom.

The program themes:

  • Science and Technology - how they affect a ski jumper
  • Weather and Water - what the weather cycles mean to Utah
  • Skiing Comes to Utah - from miners sliding on shovels to hosting the Olympic Winter Games of 2002
  • From Silver Ore to White Gold - the economic effect of skiing and winter sports on the region's economy

Please note: Because of the popularity of our field-trip program and its focus on fourth-grade curriculum, reservation priority is given to fourth and fifth grade classes.  The Alf Engen Ski Museum will fund transportation costs for ONE bus per school; maximum capacity for our field trip program is 60 students.  We host one field trip per week on either Wednesday and Friday mornings.  Please check the Calendar of Events to see available weeks before making a reservation.

To schedule a field trip, please go to our reservations page. For additional information, please contact museum director: Connie Nelson - connie.nelson@olyparks.com or at 435-658-4240.
