Exhibit Description

Alpine SpeedVisitors have a chance to experience the thrill of alpine ski competition on this display’s popular side-by-side “downhill” and “slalom” interactive race course.  Rotating display cases show the development of the ski boot from the soft leather shoe-type boot of 1935 to the modern “high-tech” model and a variety of racing skis from the 1930s through the 1990s, including the first production metal ski, the Tey “True Flex” of 1948.  Important Intermountain Alpine competitors are featured on the touchscreen monitor and visitors can learn about ski safety from the “Ask Alf” station.  An Alpine skier mannequin representing the 1960s “floats” above this display.
