Biography:

W. Averell HarrimanAverell Harriman, born in Arden, New York, was a man of great influence on the worlds diplomatic scene and of great vision on the nations recreational scene. Befitting those attributes is his primary legacy: Sun Valley, Idaho, the first ski area in the world to offer lift-served skiing.

He founded the stately and storied resort in 1937. During his lifetime, the railroad magnate was recognized world-wide for his business acumen, his political prowess and for his philanthropic contributions.
