Alf Engen

Details:

Alf has been the Ski School Director at Alta since 1949. Before that, he actively competed in Alpine and Nordic events. He was the U.S. National Jumping Champion 16 times, and is the only person to win the National 4-Way Skiing championship by placing first in each event: Downhill, Slalom, Jumping, and Cross-Country in 1940.

Bill Lash

Bill Lash began skiing at age 12 at Magic Mountain, Idaho, and became its Ski School Director in 1947. He became certified in March 1950 at Alta, the first season the certification program was instituted.

Clark Parkinson

Details:

Clark Parkinson began skiing in 1945 at Snow Basin, Utah.  His first job as a young boy was at Little Mountain ski area working as a lift operator in exchange for free ski passes.

Dean Roberts

Details:

Dean Roberts began skiing at the age of four. He skied at Lead Draw, Idaho near Pocatello where a rope tow led to a 40-meter ski jump. While in grade school, he and his pals took their skis to school so they could "fly" off the 12 to 15 ski jumps they would build between their homes and school.

Georg Hartlmaier

Georg Harlmaier arrived at Brian Head, Utah in 1964 to help establish a ski resort in southern Utah.  He was a very influential person in the development and growth of Brian Head and was the first Mountain Manager and Ski School Director of the resort.

Junior Bounous has left an indelible mark on the history of skiing in the United States through his participation in and contribution to strategic events that have developed and advanced ski technique and instruction.

K Smith

Details:

K Smith started skiing in 1924 in Utah. K owned the Forest Service permits for the Brighton lifts and installed the first T-Bar in 1936. He was President of the Alpine Ski Club in 1940.

Keith Lange

Details:

Keith Lange started skiing when he was eleven years old. Keith became a full-certified ski instructor in 1951 and certified Master in 1958. Over a 23-year period, Keith was instrumental in developing instructor training and examination criteria. He also served as an examiner for more than 20 years.

Lou Lorenz

Lou Lorenz began skiing in 1946. He started ski teaching at the Deseret News Ski School in 1950. Lou obtained his PSIA-I Associate Certification in 1954 and achieved Full Certification in 1956. Lou began his professional ski teaching career at Alta in 1953.

M. Earl Miller

Details:

Earl Miller has been involved with skiing for 35 years. He has trained many ski instructors and has taught thousands of students. Earl enjoyed helping junior racers and coached the Weber State Ski Team from 1964 to 1975.

Pepi Stiegler

Details:

Pepi Stiegler began skiing at the age of six and by the age of 15 had become the Austrian Junior Champion in slalom. He went on to win a silver medal in giant slalom at the Squaw Valley Olympics in 1960. In 1961, after deciding to specialize in slalom and giant slalom, Pepi had one of his best years ever winning four of the most important international slaloms, including the Austrian championship.

Woody Anderson

Woody Anderson has had a multi-faceted skiing career. He has been a ski racer, instructor, ski school director, ski area manager, ski shop owner/operator and ski area owner/operator.
